Who I am
Short Bio
He was born in Torino, Italy, in 1955 and received his Engineering Degree in Electronics in 1980 from Politecnico di Torino. From 1981 to 1983, he worked at the Computer Engineering Department of the same Institute on topics like parallel processing and local area networks for industrial applications. Hence, in 1987, he received his Ph. D. degree in Information and Systems Engineering.
From 1990 to 1994, he served as a professor assistant, while since 1994 as a full professor at the Computer Engineering Department of Politecnico di Torino.
His teaching dues include two MS courses on "Information Systems" and "Innovation Management & Product/Service Development."
From 2003 to 2012, he was Deputy Dean of the Industrial Engineering & Management Faculty and Deputy Chancellor (special projects) of the Politecnico di Torino. From 2015 to 2019, he was a member of the Academic Senate and Head of the Department of Computer Engineering. In October 2020, he was elected as a Politecnico's Board of Directors member, which is still, today and until 2024, his role.
From 2016 to 2019, he was also a Board of Directors member of the Foundation for the School - Compagnia di San Paolo.
His main interests include distributed systems, computer networks, communication protocols, field bus networks, formal description techniques, software engineering, product life cycle, innovation management, and education and digital transformation.
He has been the principal investigator in national and international research projects dealing with software applications, computer networks, industrial systems, and education.
He also served as a counselor for the Education Ministry to reform the national High School System and tune Higher Education to the European recommendations. He was a member of the Mario Boella Research Institute and the National Education Assessment Agency (INVALSI) Boards of Directors for several years.
He was co-Chair of IEEE-CS COMPSAC 2017 and 2022, the IEEE-CS flagship conference held in Torino at Politecnico, and, still today, he is serving as a member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE IT Professional Magazine. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and joined the honor Association Eta Kappa Nu in 2017. Currently, he is in charge as President of the AICA Association - Piedmont Area and a member of the National AICA Board of Governors.
He is co-author of several scientific publications and a book on computer networks.
